Mi Voz +Poem - Featured New Song
Mi Voz grew from the journals of Alicia Cahue, Mariana Tirsa's late mother, a woman who spent a lifetime longing to express herself, feeling that life as an immigrant in the US had severed her from her native tongue and with it, her truest voice. The song weaves Spanish verses with an English spoken word section: Alicia's own first published poem, a yearning to write mystical poetry in the spirit of San Juan de la Cruz. It is a daughter's offering and a mother's long-awaited homecoming. Mi Voz was created entirely remotely — Mariana in Austin, collaborator Bob Musseman contributing guitar and harmony from Alaska, and producer Jana Pochop in Albuquerque, NM shaping the final sound. The story of Mariana Tirsa
Mariana Tirsa is a songwriter and lead singer based in Asheville, NC, and the creative force behind Runaway Horse. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and shaped by twenty years as a working musician in Austin, her sound is rooted in the earthy mysticism of the American Southwest and deepened by the ballad traditions of Appalachian music and old folk song. She writes and sings where landscape becomes feeling; atmospheric, grounded, and searching to capture the transcendent.
Collaboration is central to how Mariana works. She has a long creative partnership with guitarist and musician Bob Musseman III, whom she met during her Austin years, and continues to seek out artists whose instincts complement her own. Runaway Horse is built on that spirit, a rotating cast of kindred voices anchored by Mariana's songwriting and the particular magic of a female and male voice finding each other in harmony.
Her music has been compared to Mazzy Star and Neko Case.
